Since joining the Consulate family in 2017, Ly Harris has always gone above and beyond for her residents with grace and compassion. Her love for her job comes to light in every interaction with those around her. After assisting in the dementia unit at the center, Ly was able to understand the skills, training, and endless empathy required to give this community the best care possible. That is when she knew she found her passion.

Ly is leading the charge in changing the culture of care for the better. Her dedication and passion for dementia care led her to become the Director of Dementia Services at Envoy of Westover Hills. Her commitment to her patients and profession is what allowed Ly the opportunity to lead the pilot dementia neighborhood at the center. “I love to give a voice to the dementia community,” says Ly. As a caregiver, she strives to advocate for her residents and dedicates herself to always find new ways to improve their quality of lif

Her willingness to be flexible and always learn from those around her makes Ly the right person to lead the dementia neighborhood. When asked what the project’s main goal, she explained it is to “turn our community into a home, a safe environment, and not treat it as a hospital.” Being the leader in this project exemplifies her commitment and love for what she does. Currently, Ly and the staff at the center are working tirelessly to become an accredited Alzheimer’s community.

"I love to give a voice to the dementia community.”

One of Ly’s favorite hobbies is photography, and her residents love when she brings her camera to work with her. Recently, she safely put together a Christmas photoshoot at the center with the activities team’s assistance. With residents dressed in their special outfits, Ly took their pictures and made a Christmas card, sent to their families. At a time when visitation is limited due to COVID-19, being creative is essential. The families greatly appreciated their loved ones’ portraits and were thankful for such a special present during these challenging times.

As for the future, Ly wants to continue working as a dementia care practitioner, staying up to date with research and best practices. She also would love to become an educator on dementia care and keep advocating for this community.

During Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Education Week, it is a delight to be able to highlight such a passionate individual with an extraordinary dedication to dementia care. At Consulate Health Care, we strive to always provide our residents, their families, and our community with the best services. It is because of people like Ly that we are able to do that.
