This week, from Sunday, Oct. 17 to Saturday, Oct. 23, we celebrate Healthcare Quality Week. Established by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ), this week is dedicated to celebrating the professionals in the field and raising awareness of the positive impact healthcare quality professionals have in our communities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, quality has taken center stage in the healthcare field more than ever. Professionals from across the world have taken on the critical work of caring for patients and residents, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

“Healthcare quality is the degree in which healthcare services increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes.”

According to NAHQ, the profession of healthcare quality has arrived at the intersection where preparation meets opportunity, and healthcare has taken notice. These professionals have dedicated time and knowledge to advance research and methods that improve patient outcomes and prepare the healthcare industry for the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

But, what Is Healthcare Quality? The Institute of Medicine defines healthcare quality as “the degree to which healthcare services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge.” Therefore, healthcare quality professionals are vital to ensure our patients, residents, families, and even staff are being taken care of and provided with the highest quality of services to attend to their needs.

As Consulate Health Care continues to advance quality in our care center, we use this opportunity to celebrate our professionals and raise awareness about healthcare quality. You can learn more about healthcare quality and how to become certified by visiting NAHQ’s website at www.nahq.org.
