Misty’s journey to DCS at Grayson Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Independence, VA has been a long but meaningful one. She has been working at Grayson since 2003, and in that time has managed to work several different roles and learn an overwhelming amount. However, her knowledge and experience is not what makes her such a fantastic employee – it’s her drive.

Misty is quite possibly the most humble employee we have had the chance to interview. After a raving recommendation from her executive director, we were surprised when we spoke with Misty by how little she had to say about her accomplishments. We realized that this is because Misty just lives and breathes her work, and to her…this is nothing to boast about. But in all honesty, her willingness to step in and help anyone in need is not only something to gloat about, but it is something to be extremely proud of.

Throughout her time at Grayson, Misty has not only worked her way up from a CNA, but she has built a family. From the residents who live there, to the team she works with, all the way to the community she lives in, Misty treats each person as if they are her own blood. Her executive director Brian said that “Misty grew up in this community, she cares about the community and the people. She wants them to get the best care possible, and will do anything within her realm to make that happen.”

Misty is not only caring, but she is a joy to be around. Her witty demeanor makes her team members comfortable to talk with her and ask her questions. Misty shares her skills and knowledge with those team members and expects that they will uphold the same level of care and standards that she does. Misty sets the bar very high in her work and her teammates recognize that. The family-like relationships that she has built with her co-workers are not typical. If something happens to one person, there is always someone there to step in and help out. There have been times when an employee needed financial assistance and Misty has never hesitated to help out.

Misty is a very busy person. As a DCS, her plate is constantly filled with many tasks. Despite that, Misty not only assists when needed at Grayson, but she recently volunteered to help out several other care centers in the region as well. Spreading her time amongst so many places and people is not only indicative of her personality, but also her work ethic. Misty takes it upon herself to do what is right for anyone. From working at 12-hour shift, or picking up shifts for other team members, she stays motivated because she loves what she does and is one of the most driven people we know.

Misty’s executive director had several great things to say about her. When we asked him which Core Value he thought represented Misty, he said “Integrity. I trust her to make the right decision. She will do the right thing for the resident and the facility and never has to ask me first.” This speaks volumes about what an incredible and dedicated employee Misty is.

"I trust her to make the right decision."

Misty completely represents what Consulate Health Care stands for. We can only hope that she stays at Grayson for a long time. Although, it is likely Misty will keep moving on up. She is one of the most deserving candidates out there and we wish her the best. Thank you for all you do Misty!
