May is National Employee Health and Fitness Month. In light of this, consider taking these simple tips to heart and practical use. If you still need that extra push, then here it is!

co-workers running

First of all, finding a fitness buddy at work is a great way to stay motivated and accountable for your health goals. Seek out one or more co-workers who would like to join you in getting healthy. Decide on goals and support each other as you work toward the goals. If you both want to be more active, you could decide to walk together at lunchtime a couple of days a week. Or you could challenge one another to resist unhealthy foods in the office. Be creative and have fun!

However, some people prefer to pursue their fitness and health goals alone, and that’s okay, too. Here are a few more tips to consider trying:

• Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Depending on your current fitness ability and the level of your office, even just walking up two, three, or four flights at a time while starting out is okay. Then gradually add more as you get accustomed to it.

• Walk as much as you can (while still being productive and on top of assignments, of course!)

• Maybe go on a restroom break to a restroom farther away in the building, maybe even up and down a flight of stairs or two.

• Take a refreshing walk on your lunch break.

• Depending on your position at work, maybe schedule a team-building walking meeting.

• Walk over to co-workers’ desks, cubicles, or offices if you need them, rather than always sending emails or chat messages.

• Get charitable! If possible, invite co-workers to join you for a charity walk or run in your area.
