Consulate Health Care’s caregivers see their job as a calling, putting compassion behind all that they do for our residents. They represent the best across the industry and we strive to recognize their contributions in helping our care centers deliver continuous excellent care. One particular caregiver we’re proud to recognize is Rebecca Harmon. Rebecca was recently named Skyline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s 2015 Nurse of the Year for the extraordinary level of resident care and professionalism she brings to work every day.

Rebecca is a licensed practical nurse (LPN) who works in the post-acute care unit at Skyline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Floyd, Virginia. Residents of the post-acute unit typically need short-term rehabilitation after their hospital stay before they are able to return home safely. These patients usually have concerns about their recovery time and it takes a special kind of person to alleviate those uncertainties. Rebecca is the embodiment of this type of person, according to her colleague Debra Gallimore. Debra said, “Rebecca is especially skilled at relieving our patients’ concerns and helps them find the strength to push towards a full recovery. She is one of the first caregivers who patients interact with when admitted into the unit, and quickly becomes a friendly and trusted face throughout their rehabilitation. Thanks to Rebecca and her empowering motivation, our patients overcome challenging circumstances and are able to return home.”

Rebecca’s passion for her role is not only apparent in the quality of care she provides her patients, but in the genuine kindness she extends to everyone she encounters on her shift. When asked why Rebecca deserved this award Debra exclaimed, “Because she is a team player! She is happy to jump in wherever needed and many times has covered for colleagues on her days off.” Debra also added, “Rebecca’s reliability and thoughtfulness does not go unnoticed at Skyline, it is why her peers nominated her for this award.”

Based on her commitment to her work at Consulate Health Care, it’s no surprise that Rebecca was nominated for Skyline’s Nurse of the Year by her peers, residents and their families. Her compassion for her patients, kindheartedness, and integrity truly inspire others. From giving her residents the confidence to recover to being someone her colleagues can count on, Rebecca is a passionate caregiver who lives out our Core Values every day.
