In the 1988 hit movie Patch Adams, Dr. Patch is famously remembered for saying “You treat a disease, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.” We couldn’t agree more. We believe that improving patients’ quality of life should be the main goal for all medical practices and rehabilitation centers, so we built our values on that principle.

The caregivers at Consulate Health Care centers are people who naturally desire to provide assistance to others. One of those people is Wendy Frazier, a Unit Clerk at Consulate Health Care of Vero Beach, who has been with Consulate since 1999. Dr. Patch would be proud to know that Wendy practices the compassionate care he advocates. Wendy is a 2013 ACE Award Runner-Up and has received 15 Consulate Health Care awards for encompassing all of the company’s core values: honesty, integrity, respect, passion, and of course, compassion.

Beth Boynton, the daughter of a Consulate patient, was so impressed with Wendy’s dedication that she took the time to write a blog post recognizing Wendy for her loving behavior toward her mom. Beth’s mom is 91 years old and was staying at a Consulate care center to heal her fractured arm, but she was very anxious and eager to go home. One night she couldn’t sleep, so Wendy came over and asked, “Would you like me to sit with you?” That was all it took to ease Beth’s anxiety and make her feel safe and loved. She fell asleep moments later.

In her blog post, Beth also recognized several other Consulate caregivers for their positive attitude at work. Consulate employees understand the importance of making our care centers feel like home, and what makes a “home” are the people living in it. Having friendly, loving, and available employees is one way Consulate manages to be just a little bit different from any other senior health care provider.
