As employees of Consulate Health Care, our caregivers have chosen a career path that demands compassion, integrity and a willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. As a CNA at Envoy of Staunton in Staunton, Virginia, Joanne Hart never expected she would deliver a baby, let alone her own granddaughter.

It was on a Wednesday that Joanne’s daughter felt as though she was going into labor. They rushed to the doctor’s office only to be sent right back home after being told it was a false labor. Little did they know, this false alarm was just the calm before the storm.

The following morning, Joanne’s daughter complained of new cramping and pain. Joanne looked down and was shocked to find her daughter’s water had broken! She sprang into action and rounded up her daughter and two grandchildren before setting out on the longer, but smoother, route to Carillion Stonewall Jackson Hospital. As Joann approached the on-ramp to Interstate 81, what started as a comfortable car ride quickly changed as her daughter announced that the baby was coming now. Joann quickly turned her car into the parking lot of the Lexington Wal-Mart just in time to safely deliver her precious new granddaughter. Lillian Neveah Hart had arrived, weighing six pounds and nine ounces. When asked about the experience, Joanne replied, “It was amazing.”

Today, both mother and daughter are happy and healthy, and Joanne has been flooded with congratulations and well wishes from her coworkers. Her versatile skill set and her ability to adapt to emergency situations are qualities we desire in all of our employees. Joanne’s selfless dedication to her family and their well-being is an attitude that transfers to her work at Envoy of Staunton every day and we are grateful to have such an individual in our Consulate Health Care family.
