During National Nursing Assistants Week, we want to spotlight a CNA that is immensely dedicated to our residents and our mission, Debra Kirk. Part of our Consulate family for over 14 years, Debra acts as a restorative CNA and staffing assistant at Osprey Point Nursing Center. Debra constantly shows her commitment to going above and beyond to provide quality care day in and day out.

Her journey in health care started when Debra was 17 years old. She entered a CNA training and preparatory course while in high school and started working in long-term care right after. Her experience in the field and willingness to share her knowledge makes her an exceptional mentor for the younger staff at the care center. In addition, Debra assists in the training of new PCAs and CNAs at Osprey Point.

Residents constantly praise Debbie, as she is called at the center, for how attentive and passionate she is regarding the care she provides. From direct care to helping paint nails, central supply, and even staffing, she is always ready to help. Jonathan Weiss, Executive Director, says, “Debra is always willing to help out on the floor with whatever is needed. She wears many hats and is always willing to do what is best for the residents.”

Recently, a family member of a resident Debra cares for, praised her for her dedication and compassion. The resident’s mother stated that Debra put in the extra effort for the resident each day. “There are no words to express how grateful I am for Ms. Debbie.” she said. Jonathan, ED at Osprey Point, says this is not the first time she gets praise from residents and families for her empathy and integrity.

Debra’s motivation to come to work every day is being able to help the residents. She says that being at the care center and providing compassionate care is what she enjoys the most about her job. “We are all so close; they are like my family,” Debra said. She also explained that she cares for each of the residents like they are family members; she wants to ensure they receive the best care possible.

With over four decades of experience in long-term care, Debra shared a piece of advice that helped her throughout the years. “When you come in the door, leave your personal life outside and do your very best for the resident,” she said. “You are here for the residents, to make them comfortable residents and meet their needs.”

As we continue to celebrate National Nursing Assistants Week, we wanted to thank all our remarkable CNAs. Having a Certified Nursing Assistant like Debra in our Consulate family is an honor. Thank you, Debra, for your compassion and hard work to provide our patients with the best care.
