Steven Novakovich shares his family favorite from the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. The Halushki recipe was brought over by his grandparents when they immigrated to the US in the early 1900s.

Ingredients:

1lb. thick cut bacon

1 head of cabbage

1 bag of wide egg noodles

Freshly cracked sea salt

Freshly cracked black pepper

Method:

Cook egg noodles according to the package. Chop cabbage into 1″ to 1-1/2″ pieces. In a stock pot, coat cabbage lightly with reserved bacon grease and cook over medium heat until translucent. Add some water to help the cabbage cook. Cut or chop bacon into 1″ pieces and add to cabbage. Add cooked egg noodles to cabbage and bacon, and mix well. Season with sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste. Enjoy!
