Thirty-seven years ago, Darlene walked into Edgewood Manor of Wellston, in Wellston, Ohio, and never looked back. She began her career there as a CNA, and has been able to try her hand at a few different roles within the care center since then. Over the span of time that she has worked there, she has also seen some important changes.

When she first started working at Edgewood Manor of Wellston, the care center did not have many resources. Today, they have a lot more equipment and useful tools for the nurses. This has really helped to inspire and motivate her co-workers. She has found that they have become more like a family; the residents always come first, and everyone is proud to of what they do. This is just one of the many reasons she has stayed at this care center for such a long time.

Darlene grew from being a CNA, all the way up to a business office coordinator. She was a rehabilitation aide for some time, and even worked in central supply. She has been able to experience many aspects of working at Edgewood Manor of Wellston due to her willingness to learn, and assist with any task. Even today, she will help out as an aide if needed.

When we asked how Darlene would like to be remembered, she replied, “As a dedicated employee – always there if someone needs help”. Darlene goes above and beyond in her job and has no interest in being noticed. She just wants to do what is right and it shines through naturally in her work.

"...a dedicated employee - always there if someone needs help”

A day in Darlene’s shoes is a very busy one. She not only performs her routine tasks, like working on resident files, but also handles accounts payable, and even answers the phones. With all that she does daily, she still manages to find time to take the residents outside to sit and talk with them. When asked what her favorite part of her job is, she said, “The residents. I love the atmosphere that the residents bring to the care center”.  Darlene is truly passionate about working at Edgewood Manor of Wellston and cares about the well-being of the people she cares for.

With so many years spent working at the care center, it is difficult for Darlene to really pin down one particular resident who has had an impact on her. But to her, everyone that comes to the care center is treated like a member of her own family. She said, “Everyone is so close, everyone is family. If it happens to one person, it happens to all”. With this belief, it is no wonder Darlene is so great at her job. She loves what she does, which is evident in the amount of years she has worked here.

After all of this time, Darlene does not see herself leaving Edgewood Manor of Wellston. She has found a home here with Consulate Health Care and has no desire to leave the constant flow of family members that she sees every day. In fact, Darlene even joked that she herself will probably become a resident one day! She is the heart of what we do at Consulate Health Care, and we would be honored for her to stay.  Thank you, Darlene, for your continued years of service.
