Over five million Americans across the country are battling Alzheimer’s – a disease that declares an unrelenting war on the mind. There are more than 15 million Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers helping to fight this war in the United States alone, and Consulate Health Care is proud to have caregivers contributing to this force and taking part in National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month each November. Our caregivers are on the frontlines helping residents battle this disease 24/7, 365 days a year. This year, our caregivers took it a step further by raising money to support groundbreaking Alzheimer’s research to find a cure. These Consulate Health Care centers each participated in special events to demonstrate activism in their community.
- Baking for a Cure: Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Virginia hosted a bake sale to raise money for the community’s “Walk to End Alzheimer’s.” The bake sale was a hit and the care center was pleased to donate $1,320 to the Alzheimer’s Association. In addition to the bake sale, caregivers showed support by participating in the walk and named their team the “Memory Marchers.”
- Raffling for a Cause: Frostburg Village in Frostburg, Maryland raffled off an antique quilt to benefit both the Alzheimer’s Association and Frostburg Village New Horizons Unit. New Horizons is Frostburg Village’s specialty unit focusing on residents with memory and cognitive loss. The raffle was a huge success and the new owner of the antique quilt was incredibly happy to take home their prize!
- Alzheimer’s Fun Run: Caregivers from the Lake Mary Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Mary, Florida participated in Oakmonte Village’s 3rd annual 5k Fun Run/Walk benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. The team donated $600 to the event which raised over $2,000 towards funding Alzheimer’s research. The race proved to be a special bonding experience for the team and they’re looking forward to participating again next year.
Our Ambassadors of Care go above and beyond in their roles to combat Alzheimer’s. Their compassion in serving our Alzheimer’s residents exceeds the duties of a typical caregiver. They work hard year round to support awareness for a disease that challenges our residents every day. They are living the Consulate Health Care mission of “Providing Service with Our Hearts and Hands”, and for that we give them our sincerest thank you. Click here to see photos from these events.
