Debra Wallace, FHCA Administrator of the Year
We’re excited to recognize Debra Wallace, the humble caregiver who works every day to make her residents feel at home. Debra was awarded the Florida Health Care Association’s 2015 Nursing Home Administrator of the Year award, the highest form of recognition awarded to nursing home administrators in Florida’s long-term care profession. She bridges the gap created when residents leave their homes behind, making her an irreplaceable member of Consulate Health Care’s Vista Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Debra has shown her commitment to improving the Vista care center through her work in the Advancing Excellence program, a campaign created by the American Health Care Association to improve the quality of care for residents in the long-term care community. Through her leadership, Debra helped Vista Manor become a Bronze Winner. And even though this distinction puts Vista in one of the highest categories for quality in a long-term care facility, she’s pushing for Gold. Debra recognizes the need to measure the quality of the services provided at Consulate Health Care. “In my career I think that the most important job I have is making sure our residents are provided with a level of service that meets their expectation,” Debra said. “I want my staff to feel that they are caring for a member of their family and providing them with the best service they can. When we strive for excellence, we might not get it, but if we don’t strive for it we will get mediocre.”
The Vista environment would not be the way it is without Debra and there are countless examples of reasons why. She has been known to show up late at night with bags of groceries and prepare breakfast or happily grill up some lunch on the patio for the night-shift staff. Sometimes she simply invites everyone to stop by her office for treats that she’s brought to share.
When she isn’t feeding Vista Manor, Debra works as one of the board of directors for her local district’s Florida Health Care Association (FHCA). In this position, Debra educates local elected officials like Jeb Bush, Senator Mike Haridopolis and Senator Thad Altman on the positive impact long-term care facilities have on and in the community. As a revolutionary care-giver, both in attitude and action, Debra earned this high distinction and we couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations Debra and thank you for your dedication to the Vista Manor care center!
