For this CHIRP spotlight, we want to highlight an individual that has been honoring our mission and putting our core values in action for 37 years. David McKinney has been a part of the Consulate family since 1984, currently working as the Maintenance Technician and Plant Operations Assistant at The Manor at Penn Village. David comes to work each day with a big smile and makes it his priority to brighten up the residents’ and staff’s days.

Known around the center for his ability to make everyone laugh with his amiable personality, David is always willing to assist when needed. Amber Barlett, Executive Director at The Manor at Penn Village, says, “David interacts with all our residents, always greeting and talking to anyone he walks by.” His extraordinary personality and positive attitude make him an excellent resource for newer staff and current team members in need of help.

David explains that his biggest motivator is “the ability to help other people that cannot help themselves and make their day a little brighter.” With his position, his mission is to help make the residents’ rooms feel like home. David’s favorite thing about working at the care center is interacting with staff, residents, and their families. He knows that being a familiar face can bring them much comfort.

“My biggest motivator is the ability to help other people that cannot help themselves and make their day a little brighter.”

Working at the center for almost 40 years, David has many stories and great memories with residents and coworkers. One of the stories is about a gentleman that was a resident in the early ’90s. David remembers stopping by his room to hear about his life experiences every week. He learned that the elderly gentleman was one of the original linemen for PPL Eletricity and would tell him stories about the start of electricity in the state. “It was super interesting to learn about his life,” David said.

Although David powerfully represents all of Consulate’s five core values, there are two that stand out: passion and compassion. His willingness to learn about the residents and always be there whenever they need him, makes him a valuable member of our team. David also constantly tries to make a positive impact, constantly paying attention to concerns and issues and proactively finding a way to address them with respect and integrity.

His coworkers have many kind words to describe him and his extraordinary contributions to the center these past 37 years. We are honored to have David on our team and to see his commitment to our mission. Thank you, David, for taking care of our residents and exemplifying our core values every day. We appreciate your dedication and hard work.
