Mimi has been working at Bradenton Health Care in Bradenton, FL for almost 5 years. During that time, she has made a tremendous impact. She recently won the Making a Difference Award. This award is something new to the care center, and she is the first to receive it.

The Making a Difference Award is given to an employee who the Resident Council feels is the most deserving. The council meets once a month to discuss and decide which employee they believe has made a difference and really works hard. One of the main reasons she won this award is that she is completely gracious and cares deeply about her residents. We asked Mimi if she knew why she was nominated for this award and she said, “I try my best, I don’t come for the money, I do what my heart is telling me to do”.

"...she is completely gracious and cares deeply about her residents."

To have the residents nominate her for this award means she is incredible at what she does. When we asked Mimi what it felt like to be recognized by her own residents she said, “It feels good. You know someone knows you’re actually doing something. I was happy and proud about it. It comes from the residents”. But, we are not surprised that the residents realize how amazing Mimi is.

Mimi is special because she knows how to help each type of person and how to talk to them to provide them comfort. She has one resident in particular who has suffered with anxiety since the passing of his wife. Mimi tries to be there every night that she can, so that she is able to tuck him into bed and help him fall asleep. Whenever he starts to get nervous she tells him “No, no, we aren’t going to do that today”, and he listens.

Mimi absolutely insists that her residents are happy. She makes sure that they eat no matter what time of night it is. She told us that the kitchen staff knows that if Mimi comes in asking for something special for a resident or a late night meal, not to question her – she means business. She is willing to go to great lengths to help her residents.

Currently, she is working towards becoming an RN. This is a great accomplishment for Mimi, who started out as a CNA 21 years ago, and has worked her way up. Her biggest motivation has always been her residents. The reason she wanted to become an RN was so that she could be more involved and care for her residents even more than she can now.

The residents are not the only ones who recognize Mimi’s talents and incredible drive. Her colleagues are so appreciative of her hard work, and have nothing but great things to say about her. Cathy Richards, Director of Activities, said, “If I say ‘Hey Mimi!’ in the hall, she always says ‘I’ll be right there’, even if it is not her section. I wish we could have 100 more employees like Mimi. She just so deserves this.” We couldn’t agree with Cathy more. Mimi is an incredible Ambassador of Care and we are so proud that she chose to be a part of the Consulate Health Care family.
