At Consulate Health Care, we wouldn’t be able to provide excellent service to our residents without our caring and determined staff. Michelle Bays, LPN MDS at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center, is one of our Consulate family’s extraordinary members. Her coworkers say she excels at her job, always giving her best to ensure her residents are well cared for.

Being a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic has been undoubtedly challenging. Michelle, however, was ready to adapt to any necessary changes since day one. In addition to her service at Augusta, she was asked if she could help out at sister care centers dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, and she was happy to do it. Working tirelessly during weeks and weekends in eight different units, she was able to bring comfort to patients, families, and staff with her compassionate and caring nature. “It was hard, but it was the most rewarding ten months of my life. I would like someone to do the same for my family,” she said.

Michelle says her coworkers and residents motivate her to come to work with a smile every day. Her decision to become a nurse came from a promise she made to her grandma before passing away. Showing compassion each day, Michelle does her job with integrity and passion.

“I love being at work. This is the most rewarding job."

Recently, Michelle had a touching experience with one of Augusta Nursing and Rehab residents. “She waited for me to come back from helping other residents to leave so that she could see me. It was heartwarming to see her smile,” said Michelle. Her compassion makes Michelle stand out each and every day. Her positivity makes a big difference when taking care of her patients.

When Michelle was asked about her favorite Consulate Core Value, she said passion. Michelle often comes to the center before her shifts start to ensure that residents and staff have enough help. Her willingness to always offer support is what makes her such a valuable member of Augusta’s team.

The love for her job makes being at the care center an enjoyable practice. “I love being at work. This is the most rewarding job, it is hard to put into words,” she said. In her free time, Michelle also loves being outdoors. She enjoys going hiking, kayaking, and especially biking.

Michelle has been at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center for over four years and has used this time to go above and beyond for her residents. Day in and day out, she puts into practice our core values. Thank you for your commitment to our mission and our residents, Michelle!
