After moving into Cardinal Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in December of 2013, Marcene Hester quickly became one of the caregivers’ favorite residents. Her sweet demeanor and kind disposition made her a loved and welcomed addition to the care center. Normally, Ms. Hester prefers to stay in bed, but on June 2, warm weather and fresh air presented an opportunity that even she couldn’t resist and so she ventured outside to the porch.15_08_10_text_box2.png

When Stephanie Pollock, an Activities Director at the care center, saw Ms. Hester on the porch, she was pleasantly surprised and took the rare opportunity to sit and join her. Also passing by was Lauren Tedder, a CNA at Cardinal Health Care who had finished her shift for the day, but couldn’t resist chatting with Ms. Hester, too. The three ladies sat outside, rocking and enjoying the finest North Carolina summer breeze you could imagine. And although Marcene often complained of pain and lethargy, on this day she was all smiles, talking and reminiscing, even singing about happy memories from yesteryear.porch_chatter_edit_cropped.jpg

This simple story about two passionate caregivers is a reminder of their love for their jobs, but especially their residents. Whether they are on the clock or their own time, Stephanie and Lauren show genuine compassion and love for the people they serve. Their encouragement and positive attitudes are qualities that we find in so many of our caregivers. We send our special thanks to these women for being Ambassadors of Care to the residents at Cardinal Health Care and for representing the Consulate family the way it was intended. Keep up the great work!
