The definition of light has evolved and transformed over time to define a plethora of meanings. “This box is very light.” “Bring sunglasses, it’s pretty light outside.” “We want to paint the living room a light color.” “You have been such a light in my life.” The term “light” can explain weight (or a lack thereof), define something’s brightness, describe a pale color and can even be used as a descriptive characteristic for a person.
At Consulate Health Care, our staff strives to be a light in our resident’s lives and brighten the quality of life for everyone they care for. Christi Fulton at Consulate Health Care of Bayonet Point in Bushnell, FL is no exception and is an exemplary model of that mission. She’s been described as “sincere, authentic and fun,” and fellow employees at Bayonet Point noticed how their residents “light up when she comes in the room.” Christi is a bright star in the Consulate community and is also one of our ACE Award winners. It’s our turn to shed some light on Christi and her achievements.
Born in Richmond, California, Christi moved around frequently during her childhood and has lived all across the United States. Her father was a machinist in the Navy who specialized in building ships, so they moved wherever he was needed. While living in New Orleans, LA with her family, Christi lost her father to a heart attack at just 47 years old. Christi was 21 at the time and pregnant with her eldest daughter, Katie. Persevering from this loss, she found the inner strength to care for her mother, whom she still cares for to this day. Christi was working in fast food management, but knew she wanted to do more with her life and for the new life she was about to bring into the world. Dealing with the sudden loss of her father awoke something in Christi and she was able to find light in all the darkness.
Her love for being a mother and a caregiver inspired Christi to pursue her dream of working in the nursing field, specifically geriatric care. Shortly after her epiphany, Christi became a registered C.N.A and immediately began working in the healthcare field. Of the 18 years she has spent as a C.N.A, 13 of them have been spent with Consulate Health Care and she has proven to be one of the most valued and loved employees at her care center. She says her favorite things about working for Consulate are the relationships she’s built with co-workers, caring for her patients, and making sure that everyone is happy every day.
To honor Christi’s ACE Award success, her care center held an award ceremony where Christi’s mother, two daughters, fellow staff, residents and visitors joined in celebration. As the room filled with guests, Christi’s mother wiped away her tears, looked at her daughter and asked in disbelief, “All of these people are here for you?”
Christi has proven to encompass all of our Core Values but her Compassion for her residents, fellow staff and all those who interact with her, is what makes her shine so bright. From loss to light, Christi has always been able to keep looking forward and we are humbled to be illuminated by such a star.
