It’s hard to put into words what kind of person and employee Amanda Mayfield is. She is just truly one of those individuals that you are lucky to know or to meet. She seems to brighten everyone’s day with her enthusiasm and desire to aid others. Amanda is the type of employee that you can always depend on to step in and help out whenever needed.

Amanda caught our attention when we heard about something she did for a new CNA on her team. This CNA had just started working at her care center, and he wasn’t able to afford new scrubs. Knowing this, Amanda went out one night and bought him a new pair of scrubs. When we asked Amanda about why she did this kind act, her response was, “Being a CNA is a hard job. My CNAs and nurses work so hard, if I see one of them struggling, I’m more than willing to help them out”.  It’s this type of compassion that makes Amanda such a unique and valued employee.

Amanda began working at Kenwood View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salina, Kansas in 2013 as an RN Unit Manager and has since worked her way up as the Director of Clinical Services. However, she did not always work in this field. She spent most of her prior career in inpatient oncology and acute care in a hospital setting. She learned a lot there, but when the opportunity came to work in long-term care, she had to jump in.

It has been three years since Amanda made that career change and now she will never look back. She has found a home at Kenwood and is extremely enthusiastic about her job. One thing she greatly appreciates about working for Consulate Health Care is our Core Values. Amanda really believes in each of our Core Values and thinks that Integrity is the most important. We found this intriguing as we chose to write this story about Amanda based on the integrity we feel she displays on a daily basis.

"Amanda really believes in each of our Core Values and thinks that Integrity is the most important."

When we asked Amanda what she likes most about working at Kenwood, she said, “Being in a position where I can change things. A big part of me being here is making a difference with resident care, the staff, and being a part of a change and improvement”.  She loves that unlike acute care, she can reach people who can implement important changes and really do what is right for the residents.

Overall, Amanda wants to help anyone that she can. She does this not only because it is her job, but also because she genuinely cares about those around her. From her colleagues to her residents, she goes above and beyond whatever is asked of her. We asked her if any particular resident has left an impact on her.  She said, “They all have an impact. I’m very involved with the residents. My door is revolving with residents coming to visit. I’m so available to all of them, all of the time, that it makes it difficult to get my other job duties done sometimes.” This says a lot about Amanda’s priorities and who she is as a person.

Amanda couldn’t be happier that she decided to work in long-term care. She is also glad that she made the right decision by choosing to work at Kenwood. We are beyond grateful to have such a dedicated employee on our team. Thank you for all you do Amanda!
