Florida is one of the most popular locales for retirees. It’s not just snowbirds flocking to this state – people from all across the country want to spend their senior days here. Miami is at the top of many wish lists of places to live because it has a lot to offer. Here are a couple reasons seniors love the city so much:

The weather

One of the main reasons older individuals flock to Florida is because of the wonderful weather. According to U.S. Climate Data, the annual high temperature reaches 84.2 degrees Fahrenheit while the yearly low is around 69.9 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temp is 77.05 degrees Fahrenheit, the perfect amount of warmth to get seniors outside without putting them at risk of heat stroke. While there are typically 128 days per year with some rainfall, there are about 121 full days of sun. This means some days feature short periods of precipitation – but that’s not enough to put a damper on Miami. The city has so much to offer indoors that seniors can easily find something fun to do while waiting out the rain.

Ample senior communities

Some people move to Florida when they retire and are not in need of any special assistance. They may buy a condo, for example, and plan to stay there until they are no longer able to live alone or away from medical assistance. Miami is a wonderful option for people looking to try this option because they can still remain in town when they make the move to a senior community. There are hundreds of options to choose from, ranging in care from medicine reminders and optional housekeeping to 24/7 nursing staff, memory care, and rehabilitation. It’s nice to stay somewhere familiar when going through transitions that occur with age, and Miami is a perfect place to make these important moves.

A plethora of things to do

Miami is one of those places that has something for everyone. Outdoorsy people can enjoy spending time near the water reeling in huge fish, catching waves or lying on the beach enjoying a good book. There are a myriad of boat tours, from looking for alligators in the Everglades to cruising along the coast in a speedboat. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of the wind in your hair!

Arts and culture fans love the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs for its exciting film screenings. The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens offer a gorgeous castle and stunning walkways for seniors to enjoy. Seniors also love taking visiting friends and family to popular locales like Zoo Miami, Marlins Park, Dolphin Mall and Bayside Marketplace.

The city also features foods from all over the world, like Cubano sandwiches and coffees, Thai and fusion restaurants, and samplings from across the globe. Breweries are also popular here, offering tours and flight samplings to get a taste of different beers. Clearly there are a lot of reasons why seniors would want to spend their time in Miami!
