The simple act of walking has numerous benefits for your physical and mental health and you don’t need any special equipment or clothing to start walking daily.

Many experts recommend a daily goal of 10,000 steps per day. Wearing a fitness tracker to count steps has been found to be a helpful motivator to stay active. Along with counting your steps, many trackers also count calories, active minutes, and even how long you sleep each night. All of this data can help you to stay inspired to reach your fitness goals.

According to the Mayo Clinic, regular brisk walking can help you:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
  • Strengthen your bones and muscles
