Each year at Thanksgiving we give thanks for the ones we love and the blessings we have been given. At Consulate Health Care, it’s also a time when our caregivers give a little extra back to the residents we serve to ensure that their holiday season is full of warm memories. This year, one employee at our Edgewood Manor of Wellston care center made it her mission to coordinate an especially meaningful Thanksgiving not only for her residents, but for the Wellston, Ohio community as well.
As the Director of Resident and Family Services at Edgewood Manor of Wellston, Jessica Harrison handles the care center’s admissions and is often the first face residents see when they move in. She understands that change can be difficult for anyone and, to show her compassion to those making the transition, she develops close bonds with each of them to make Edgewood Manor feel like home. Making sure residents enjoy their time at the care center doesn’t feel like work, especially when she plans special events like our upcoming Thanksgiving Day celebration.
Jessica is going above and beyond to plan a Thanksgiving celebration that will be a memorable occasion for the residents at Edgewood Manor of Wellston and their families. Planning for the event was no small task, but she embraced it with excitement. Jessica sent out invitations to all of the residents’ loved ones, picked out a special menu for the dinner feast, and made plans for the care center to be covered in Thanksgiving decorations. The dining room will be decked out with elaborate place settings, new table linens, and turkey décor galore! To get everyone in the spirit of the holiday season, Jessica has worked with residents to craft gifts for their loved ones. During the Thanksgiving dinner, residents will be able to show their appreciation for their families by giving them these handmade gifts and cards.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Jessica wanted to give back to the community as well. When she learned about the Growing Oaks Food Program, a non-profit organization which provides food assistance to a local elementary school, she knew she wanted to help those children during the holiday season. The organization provides the children with packages of food prior to school breaks, and Jessica worked with the Edgewood Manor community to collect enough donations to provide food over the holidays for more than 50 children.
It’s people like Jessica who make long-lasting impacts in people’s lives. Whether she is going the extra mile to make a resident and their family feel at home or helping feed children in need, she is always looking for ways to put others before herself. This Thanksgiving, Jessica is making a difference in the lives of our residents, their loved ones, and the community. We’re proud to have someone as passionate as Jessica as part of the Consulate Health Care family. Thank you for all that you do, Jessica!
