A press release from the American Health Care Association (ACHA) explains a dramatic change in the Five-Star Quality Rating System used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The new ranking structure will force nearly one in three skilled nursing centers to lose a coveted quality star even though there are no corresponding drops in quality. In analyses confirmed by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), the CMS rebasing will cause an estimated 4,777 of 15,500 centers nationwide to lose one or more stars in their individual quality rankings.
