This past winter was a particularly difficult one in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. It seemed like just as soon as the snow finally melted they would get hit with another storm leaving 4-6 more inches on the ground and creating transportation issues all over the city. Luckily, The Palace Care and Rehabilitation Center’s Darrell Braswell, maintenance director and winter weather hero, was there to rescue staff and residents during those harsh winter months.
As the snow continued to pound Red Boiling Springs and the surrounding area, many of our caregivers found themselves unable to get their cars dug out enough to drive to work. Without hesitation, Darrell bravely took it upon himself to endure the elements as he traveled to pick up as many employees as he could and drive them to work himself, even going so far as to return them to their homes once their shifts were over. He was a caregiver for caregivers during all three shifts and was occasionally out until midnight making sure both the staff and the care center grounds were safe. No matter how cold it was or how much snow had fallen, at 5:00 a.m. the next morning Darrell was up and ready to do it all again. He even took a few of the employees’ children to their sitters and one employee to the store to pick up her son’s medication. Darrell was absolutely instrumental in keeping the care center up and running smoothly when many businesses were forced to close on those wintery days.
To show our appreciation for Darrell’s selflessness, we presented him with a plaque recognizing his selflessness and dedication to his co-workers and residents. You can’t always predict the weather, but one thing that is for sure is we have the most dependable staff members around when obstacles arise.
