The staff at Siemon’s Heritage Personal Care Center and at Siemon’s Lakeview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Somerset, Pennsylvania know what it means to be a family. They treat each and every patient like a beloved family member. The daughter of a married couple who resided at Siemon’s was so moved by the loving care given to her parents, she wrote a letter to the local newspaper, The Daily American.
In the letter, she said, “Our parents lived together for two and a half more years, happily ever after in a place they called home, Siemon’s Heritage Personal Care Center,” She continued, “The staff are kind angels. Each and every nurse working at Siemon’s Heritage PCC is professional, dedicated and kind.”
Melissa Henderson, the director of wellness at Siemon’s Heritage Personal Care Center gives all of the credit to her wonderful staff who are family-oriented and abide by the golden rule. Amy Handwerk, the clinical liaison at Siemon’s Lakeview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center added,“The right team is on board. They have won quality measure awards and keep pursuing the highest quality care.”
Of course, COVID-19 has added new challenges, but Henderson said that it does not affect their ability to give care. She told us that because the patients need more socialization than ever during the pandemic, activity staff are taking extra time to meet and greet each resident every morning. “We are their outside world right now. We have time and keep in constant contact with their families.”
There is a huge benefit to the fact that Siemon’s operates a personal care center and a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in close proximity to each other. As patients move between the different levels of care needed, they benefit from the continuity of care. This means that staff are familiar with the patients’ medical histories, personalities, needs, and preferences as they move from one level of care to another.
