Sometimes you meet people in life that really make you say…wow. There are individuals out there who selflessly give, and you wonder how such a person exists. Becky Brown is one of those people. We spoke with Becky after a resident at the Envoy at the Village in Fork Union, VA nominated her for the Employee Spotlight in their resident newsletter.
Becky did not disappoint our expectations of what kind of an employee and person she is. Becky has been a restorative CNA at Envoy at the Village for 13 years, and she hasn’t had one moment go by that she has considered leaving. She started her career as a CNA, and to this day absolutely enjoys every day that she comes to work.
The resident who nominated Becky is someone that she shares a special relationship with. Becky met her years ago at a previous job where they were actually co-workers. She ended up running into her again at Envoy at the Village as one of her residents. Becky doesn’t consider her just another resident, she considers her to be family. Each day after she clocks out, she goes to spend at least 30 minutes with this resident off the clock. Becky truly enjoys her company, but she also wants to be there for her as a support, as this resident does not have any family of her own that can visit her as frequently as Becky can. It’s no wonder that she nominated Becky for the spotlight.
One of the things that she said about Becky was that she is resilient. No matter the situation, Becky keeps a smile on and keeps on going. It’s this perseverance that sets Becky apart from the rest. We asked Becky what motivates her to come to work each day and be so positive, she said, “Just being with the residents. If they are happy, I am happy. I just want to take care of them and make them smile. I come to work for them, because I consider them my family.”
A day in Becky’s shoes is not an easy one. She works the morning shift, which is typically the busiest. Becky enjoys all the chaos though, because she likes to be busy and does not like to sit still. At times, it can be stressful and yet Becky manages to keep her head up, continue smiling, and make sure that she is making a positive impact on her residents’ day too. To say Becky is passionate about her work would be an understatement.
When asked what she believes to be the most important part of her job, Becky replied “Taking care of the residents, and making them happy. I am here for them, nothing else. I tell them every day, I come here to take care of your needs.” Becky is a true example of caring with your heart and hands.
Although Becky has been at Envoy at the Village for 13 years, she has no intention to leave. If anything, she hopes to continue to grow and maybe one day become a physical therapy assistant so that she can spend even more time with the residents. We are so thankful for the smile that Becky brings with her every day and her sincere passion for the residents. Thank you for your hard work Becky!
