Watercolor leaves
Nothing signifies the coming of autumn quite like the leaves changing color. Bring some of that vibrant natural beauty indoors by creating watercolor leaves you can hang around your living space. Here’s what you’ll need for this activity, which is inspired by blogger Sew Liberated:
- Coffee filters
- Spray bottles
- Yellow, orange, red and green liquid watercolors
- Paint brushes
- Scissors
Before you start, make sure you cover your workspace with newspaper to avoid staining any items with paint. Once you’re set up, cut the coffee filters into the shape of leaves. It’s a good idea to trace the shape in pencil before you start cutting so you have a template to work from. After the leaves are cut, apply the liquid watercolors to them. Don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with interesting color combinations! Spray the painted leaves with water so the colors can run, and use paintbrushes to blend and perfect each colorful design. Hang these on your walls or tape them to your windows.
Fall berry wreath
Wreaths aren’t just for winter holidays – they make wonderful additions to your home during any season. Try crafting this simple do-it-yourself wreath, inspired by craft blog To Simply Inspire, to add autumnal charm to any door in your living space. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 14-inch grapevine wreath
- 8 orange berry stems
- Clippers or strong scissors.
Because you’re working with a premade base, this craft doesn’t take long at all! First, trim the end of the stems so that each one is mostly berries. Next, weave them through the openings in the grapevine wreath however you’d like – the source suggested pushing them all the way through so that they’ll stay put. Once the stems are in place, simply space them out and adjust them until it looks the way you want it to. Attach a ribbon to the back of the wreath and put it on display!
