Sandra’s entry to Envoy of Lawrenceville in Lawrenceville, VA was not typical. Previous to being hired in 1992 as a CNA, she had actually been a factory worker. Sadly, Sandra was one of many workers that were displaced. However, because of this event, Sandra went back to business school and was trained in computer technology. With her newly acquired skill set, she was sent to work in healthcare. Although this was not her plan, once she began working as a CNA, she never left.
Sandra is now the human resources director at Envoy of Lawrenceville, but getting to that position was no easy feat. She got her feet wet initially as a CNA, but soon after, she transferred over to medical records, then eventually to central supply. After years of hard work and learning the field, Sandra grew into her current role and has not changed her position again.
After having been at this care center for over 20 years, we had to ask Sandra what has kept her coming back year after year. She said “I enjoy coming into work each day. The residents put a smile on your face and you can laugh and cry with them. This is a very rewarding job”. Although Sandra’s current job duties revolve around administrative tasks and managing the employees, she is passionate about the residents as well.
Since her employees take care of the residents, Sandra sees the immense value in making sure that they are supported so that they can do their job to the best of their ability. Although Sandra’s job requires her to spend a lot of time at her desk, she devotes much of her time to the employees. She said “I put everything else aside when an employee comes to talk to me. It’s so important to support the employees.”
Sandra’s workload can oftentimes be very full and she has a very busy schedule. But, somehow she manages to prioritize her time and get things done. She even finds time to help out our other care centers when they need extra staff or someone to help with payroll. There is no task too great for Sandra to complete. In fact, it’s Sandra’s productive nature and reliability that her executive director noticed and in turn, nominated her to be featured on our CHIRPsocial blog.
Sandra is motivated not just by her work, or her employees, but the family that she sees each day she walks in the door. She has stayed at Envoy for so long because she truly enjoys the atmosphere and the people she spends the most time with. She has one resident who genuinely feels like family, and she visits her daily. She bonded with this resident and talks to her as if it is her own sister living in the building.
Sandra’s outgoing personality, hard work ethic, and drive to help and motivate her employees is what makes us proud to call her part of our Consulate Health Care family. She is an inspiring person and we can only hope that she can touch many more lives for years to come. Thank you Sandra!
