PARKS HEALTHCARE AND REHABILITATION CENTER RECEIVES

5-STAR CMS RATING

Orlando, Florida (January 19, 2018) – Parks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, a 120-bed skilled nursing center, and a proud member of the Consulate Health Care family, has achieved a five-star CMS rating.

Within two years of joining the Parks, Executive Director Kenneth Victor was able to turn what was once a two-star rated building into a CMS five-star care center. His first areas of focus were on customer service and regulatory compliance, resulting in an overall improvement in quality measures, which is also at a five-star rating.  “By focusing on customer service, our staffing improved, thereby resulting in greater quality measures and regulatory compliance,” said Ken. “Through better customer service, we were able to be more responsive to the needs of our residents and their families. We focused on RN staffing and maintained strong stability in our nursing management roles, as well as social services and business office.”

Reaching a five-star rating on its own is already an outstanding accomplishment, but to achieve this within a couple of years and from one end of the scale to the other is incredible; a true representation of the Parks’ commitment to providing the best possible care to those they serve on a daily basis.

Ken also commented on his caregivers’ mindsets shifting to be more forward-thinking and able to respond proactively to the patients and residents in their care center. “By continually being forward-thinking and forward-moving, we’re able to evaluate our greatest areas of opportunity while constantly focusing on quality measures from a direct-care perspective,” Ken told us. “Our families and residents are so proud. Employees tell me that they have a sense of pride when they wear their name badges outside of our building. That makes me excited to see the progress we’ve made and be able to recognize them for these achievements.”

Additionally, we learned that the Parks Healthcare is in the process of being certified by the Joint Commission, and that in the midst of all this success, they’ve been operating with a quarter of their building out of service due to damages from Hurricane Irma that are currently being repaired.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created the five-star quality rating system to help families and caregivers compare post-acute providers more easily. CMS uses an overall scale of one to five stars, and a separate rating for each of the following three sources of information: Health Inspection ratings that contain information from the last three years of onsite inspections, including standard surveys and complaint surveys; Staffing which is rated on the number of hours of care on average provided every day, by nursing staff, to each resident and their level of need; and lastly, the Quality Measures rating which evaluates information on eleven different physical and clinical measures for patients and residents.

For Consulate Health Care, a national leading provider of senior healthcare services and the largest post-acute provider in Florida, achieving this national recognition proves their dedication to caring for patients and residents like family, while living out their mission of “Providing Service with Our Hearts and Hands”.
